A Leeds Beckett University lecturer has written a new book on the 60s pop sensations, the Monkees, charting the band’s success and how they paved the way for modern day musicians.
Dr Peter Mills, senior lecturer in media and popular culture, has written “The Monkees, ‘Head’ and the 60’s” – the first serious study of the band and the first to fully acknowledge their impact on pop as we know it.
Dr Mills said: “I have been a fan of the Monkees for 40 years. Whilst there have been several books, I was waiting for the one that picked up on what I thought was a kind of hidden significance to the group and their story. I ended up writing it myself.”
