The weather failed to dampen the spirits for the return of Rothwell’s May Day festival.

Thousands of people braved the showers yesterday (May 2) to descend on the Pastures for the annual celebration.

The centrepiece was the traditional May Day dance which saw young dancers wind ribbons around the traditional May Pole.

Libby Walsh was crowned the May Queen along with her attendants Eve Marwood and Eva Radnell.
