Leeds couple to appear on Big Brother 2017 as married housemates

A married Leeds couple with a romantic backstory are to appear together on the new series of Big Brother.

Imran and Sukhvinder Javeed, of West Park, met for the first time at primary school when they were just eight years old.

They faced disapproval from their families when they first began dating, as Imran is a Muslim and Sukhvinder a Sikh, and had to meet in secret before marrying in an Islamic ceremony when they were still teenagers.

Now parents to two children, the couple run their own business together manufacturing the popular breastfeeding aid MilkySnugz, which was invented by Sukhvinder.

Imran, 39, signed up for the Channel Five reality show because he wants to give viewers the chance to get to know a modern Muslim.

"I want to show my children how to be a good person. I want to be an example to the next generation as well and let them know it’s not all about social media."

His 38-year-old wife describes herself as blunt and impatient, and says she applied for the programme so she could 'meet the world'.

The pair will be considered as two separate housemates rather than one entity, as happened when popstar twins Jedward took part.
