A CHEF is auctioning off his talents to raise money for the starving – by promising to cook dinner for a winning bidder on eBay.

Massimo Bresciani, the Tuscan-born head chef at Diva Italiana in Pudsey, Leeds, is auctioning off a three-course dinner to raise money for Action for Hunger.

Massimo will personally visit the house to prepare and cook the meal for up to four people after the auction closes tomorrow.

He will also discuss and create the menu with the winner, do the shopping beforehand, organise a waiter to provide the full-on restaurant experience – and even do the washing up afterwards.

He said: “It’s a full food service and I’m looking forward to it. The personal experience is something which I thought would appeal to a lot of people and we are hoping to raise lots of money for charity.

“In this country, people can go into a restaurant and order their favourite meal easily. They forget that in some parts of the world, there’s malnutrition and people don’t have the opportunity to send their food back to the kitchen because they don’t like it.

“There’s a strong link between this charity and the restaurant trade and that’s one of the reasons why we’re supporting it.”

The winning bid currently stands at £155, with Massimo planning to set up another eBay auction over the coming weeks.

With the restaurant in Booths Yard celebrating its fourth birthday at the start of March, there are a whole host of other events planned, including a dinner and charity raffle on March 16.

Managers Mattia Boldetti and Sami Lawrence will also spend six days trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro at the end of April.

Mattia said: “It will be fantastic to see the Pudsey community come together to support such a worthwhile cause and we are glad to do our bit to help those who do not have easy access food.

“We hope our guests will realise that others are not fortunate enough to have nutritious and healthy food in ready supply and will aid our charity efforts.”

Action Against Hunger runs dedicated nutrition programmes to treat and prevent acute malnutrition, working in disadvantaged communities in more than 40 countries across the world.

Diva Italiana is looking for individuals and businesses to support the campaign. To make a donation, visit www.justgiving.com/divaitaliana or for more information, call 0113 255 5810.
