Have your say

This was the dramatic moment a car was engulfed in flames on one of the main roads through Leeds.

The BMW is thought to have suffered an engine fault that caused it to catch light on the ring road near Matalan, between Wortley and Farsley.

Firefighters rushed to the scene after being called by the owners, believed to be an elderly couple, who got out of the car before it became an inferno.

The incident, caught on camera by a passerby, happened on Thursday afternoon.

One onlooker said: “One minute there was smoke coming from the engine, the next it was completely engulfed.

“It was very dramatic, but fortunately no-one was hurt.

“Needless to say, the car was a complete write-off after the fire was out.”
