A 75-YEAR-OLD man who ran two brothels in Leeds has been spared being sent to jail.
Raymond Telford was given a suspended sentence after a court heard prostitutes operated at his premises on Kirkgate in central Leeds and Bayswater Road, Harehills.
Judge Alistair McCallum told him: “You are coming up to 76 years of age now. I am going to assume that you have probably had enough of this sort of business now.”
A clergyman was among the red-faced punters caught by police who raided Telford’s brothel in Kirkgate last December.
The Harehills brothel was raided on the same day and six prostitutes working at both premises were given police cautions.
Telford, of Shakespeare Approach, Burmantofts, admitted running the Kirkgate brothel from June 2009 to December 2010 and the Harehills brothel from September 2009 to December last year. Police also seized £12,350 from his home.
Chloe Fairley, prosecuting, said Telford pleaded guilty on the basis that some of the money he received was legitimate income.
She said he received £10 from each person who paid to enter the premises for a shower or a sauna and a further £10 if they paid for a massage. He was aware that the premises were being used for prostitution and “fantasy” purposes. Judge McCallum also gave Telford a three-month curfew order.
