It’s over a year now since our naming partner, local based bank First Direct sponsored us to become the Leeds First Direct Arena.
In the arena, we have a bar that customers can use to have leisurely catchup before the show they’ve chosen.
First Direct always like to be unconventional, funky and unexpected and so we’ve just launched a really exciting competition to redesign this important space within our venue.
We’re looking for budding amateur designers who want to have a chance of designing something real.
The winning design will get the opportunity to see their design made into reality.
For more information on this competition, visit firstdirect.tumblr.com.
This week has started out in a very busy way indeed. We’ve had two sell out performances from the King of Swing, Robbie Williams. Despite hurting his back before he arrived, Robbie delivered two barn storming performances and the whole arena was mesmerised by the swing classics.
It’s a really busy week with lots to come. Friday it’s Dolly Parton, we’ve got the Osmonds, David Essex and the Bay City Rollers on Saturday, Eric Clapton on Sunday and the Eagles on Monday, so the whole team are burning the candle at both ends to prepare for one of the busiest runs of concerts we’ll ever see here.
We’ve got some really massive announcements to come in the next two weeks so we’re working on those. Who’ll hear about them here first.
And now for more information about that competition...
A spokesman said: “First Direct are on the hunt for West Yorkshire’s best aspiring interior designers to inspire a full makeover of the first direct arena bar - and as well as the kudos of winning our bar redesign competition, there are a couple of great prizes up for grabs.
“Fancy it? We’d like your ideas to be around the theme of ‘Unexpected Leeds’. It’s where we started and it’s helped us become who we are today, which is a bank that’s a little bit different, a bit unexpected. What does that mean for the design of the bar? Well, that’s up to you to decide, check out the brief for all the details.
“If interior design isn’t your thing, you can still get involved. We’d love you to help inspire our wannabe interior designers by contributing to this, our ‘Unexpected Leeds’ moodboard. We’ve scoured the city for images that we think demonstrate ‘unexpected Leeds’, but its your city too, so we’d love you to add you own images. You can submit your images on tumblr.”
