Youngsters to strut their stuff on Leeds stage

Northern Ballet is now taking bookings for their 2014 Easter Course for six to 13-year-olds designed to get children moving during the Easter holidays.

The programme is designed to give them the opportunity to experience and enjoy dance no matter what their level of experience.

The popular four-day course involves a daily ballet class and creative workshops with expert teachers.

A spokeswoman said that the youngsters who participate will learn steps from Northern Ballet’s Cinderella and Three Little Pigs productions.

They will then develop dance and performance skills to bring these stories to the stage in the form of a performance for family and friends at the end of the course. The Easter programme will be held at Northern Ballet’s award-winning Quarry Hill home in Leeds from April 14 to April 17.

Northern Ballet, based in the city for more than a decade, is one of the UK’s five large ballet companies and performs throughout the UK as well as overseas.

A spokeswoman added: “Northern Ballet works to make dance accessible to all and enable everyone to learn more about ballet in a variety of ways.

“Offering a range of school workshops, project, classes and courses as well as resources and activities at the theatre, Northern Ballet offers programmes for children and adults as well as specific projects for those with learning difficulties or physical disabilities. Northern ballet reaches more than 50,000 participants annually with these projects. Join us to have fun, meet new friends and unlock your imagination as you create a magical performance that will blow your family and friends away.”

The news comes the day after Northern Ballet was set to feature in children’s entertainment programme Something Special on the BBC CBeebies channel.

The courses are priced at £120 for the full course, or £110 with a Breezecard.

A spokeswoman advised that due to high popularity the 2013 course sold out fast, so those interested are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
