Yorkshire’s tourism tsar has taken on a new senior volunteer role with one of the UK’s biggest charities.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, is the new patron of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
He will represent the charity at the highest level and encourage and initiate fundraising opportunities across the county to support its work.
He said: “My own recent personal experience of the incredible work of Marie Curie nurses inspired me to take on my own fundraising challenges at the New York and London Marathons to help support the work of the charity in Yorkshire.
“It is a great honour to be asked to take on the role of patron for Yorkshire.
“I am enormously privileged to be able to help.”
