Yorkshire man killed at cricket ground named

A construction worker from North Yorkshire has been named by police as the man who died in an industrial accident at the Hampshire Rose Bowl cricket ground on Monday.

Philip Carsley, 34, from Thurnscoe, was working on the construction of a new spectator stand at the ground in West End near Southampton, which is home to Hampshire County Cricket Club.

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are currently investigating the circumstances that led to Mr Carsley's death.

His family have been notified.

Local reports said that Mr Carsley was crushed by a block of concrete that dropped from a crane but police have not confirmed this.

Emergency services that rushed to the scene at 2pm on Monday afternoon found the man alive but, despite attempts to save him, he died at the scene.
