Yorkshire celebrates success at bodybuilding championships PHOTO GALLERY

Kim Hollis is no beefcake. The 28-year-old is one of a new breed of slimline female bodybuilders.

On Sunday she scooped her first win at the UK Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation's North East championships in Leeds Town Hall.

Kim's victory in the body fitness class meant she qualified for the British Championships to be held in Nottingham in a fortnight.

But there was no celebratory glass of champagne for the Castleford policewoman.

She said: "Unfortunately because the national championships are so close, and bearing in mind I'd been up since 7am doing my hair and make-up, I just went straight home on Sunday evening.

"I had a little bit of chocolate as a treat, tried to get some of my fake tan off, and had an early night.

"It's not very glamorous, but that's the truth of it.

"I was straight back into my training the next day, as well as back to

work."

When the single PC's not pounding the beat in Selby, she trains at the Bodyworks Gym in Featherstone run by friend and mentor Rachael Grice.

Rachael, a former Miss Universe, has helped Kim sculpt her 5ft 5ins, eight-and-half stone figure since she took up the sport two years ago.

Kim said: "I couldn't have done any of this without Rachael. Along with my friend Adam Lowe, they've been extremely helpful and supportive over the years."

For the next two weeks Kim will stay on her strict six-meals-a-day diet – eating five egg whites or a protein shake for breakfast before enjoying grilled chicken and green salad to keep her in shape.

She said: "The look in female bodybuilding has become very feminine – broad shoulders, a thin waist and long legs.

"Even the physique girls, like Lisa Cross who did a show on Sunday, may have a lot of muscle but still put themselves across as very feminine, wearing sparkling bikinis.

"The sport as a whole is a little bit misunderstood in this country. Body fitness, which is my discipline, takes a hell of a lot of dedication.

"It involves cardio-vascular exercise as well as weight training, and it helps me clear my mind at the end of busy day at work."
