Yorkshire carbon neutral learning centre

A GARDENING charity is leading the way in green thinking after creating one the UK's greenest buildings in Harrogate.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is building a carbon-neutral Learning Centre and Library in its garden in Harrogate.

Open to the public in early 2010, the new Learning Centre and Library will deliver horticultural and environmental education to around 10,000 children a year.

The building is designed to be environmentally friendly with the use of renewable energy resources and recycled materials.

And it will be open for a sneak preview in September to architects, engineers, local authorities, construction companies, project managers and architectural/construction design students.

Set within the grounds of the Learning Centre site at the RHS Garden Harlow Carr, the one-day event is free of charge for those pre-registered.

To register for a free place at the event on September 9, email harlow carrpr@rhs.org.uk.

Closing date for registration is Wednesday September 2.
