Yorks TV chef talks rhubarb to Leeds shoppers
TV chef James Martin talked rhubarb, real ale and his granny's roast potatoes on day one of the Leeds Loves Food Festival.
The 37-year-old star of BBC One's Saturday Kitchen hosted live cooking demonstrations during yesterday's heat wave at the Merrion Centre and Millennium Square.
The Yorkshire lad, originally from Malton, now lives in Hampshire, but still raved about the local produce of his youth.
In particular, he talked of Fat Rascals from Betty's Cafe Tearooms; Black Sheep beer; lamb sold by butcher Colin Robinson at Skipton; York bacon and rhubarb from the golden growing triangle between Wakefield, Morley and Rothwell.
He said:"It is great to be part of it. Supporting restaurants in this climate is vital if we are to see them through."
