Yorks cinema where all the movies make it big

by Charles Heslett IF you like your movie-going experience on the large side, then the answer is at Yorkshire's only IMAX cinema from December 27.

Ben Stiller's latest film Night at the Museum opens at the region's only IMAX Theatre in the National Media Museum in Bradford, which recently changed its name from the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.

The film format used by IMAX (15/70) is 10 times larger than a conventional 35mm film, and the digitally re-mastered version will be released at the same time as the original, smaller version across the country.

Moviegoers will be virtually transported inside Night at the Museum as they watch exhibits magically come to life on the world's largest screens, the first of its type to open in Britain, surrounded by state-of-the-art digital surround sound.

"Night at the Museum is a wild ride of a movie. It's immersive—putting you in the thrilling position of participating in the secret life of a museum after dark," said director Shawn Levy. "I can't think of a bigger treat for an audience than taking that wild ride in the vivid scale and clarity of the IMAX format. It takes the film-going experience to the next level. It makes a big movie even bigger."

The film features good-hearted dreamer Larry Daley (Stiller) who, despite being perpetually down on his luck, thinks he's destined for something big.
