YEP CAMPAIGN Let us play!

Are these the signs that say Leeds is slamming the door on its own children?

Around almost every corner, on green spaces perfect for play, these messages raise their heads time and again.

Now the Yorkshire Evening Post is calling for an end to the "no ball games culture" which has curtailed youngsters' freedom to develop and learn from playing outside.

We want more opportunities for young people to have fun in the fresh air.

That's why the YEP is campaigning for more playgrounds and playable spaces for our children. Fun, unstructured, physical exercise outside, with other youngsters is something experts agree is key to every child's development.

And the YEP believes every youngster in the city has the right to this.

We want to see a play area within walking distance of every home in Leeds, and a variety of play spaces to suit the different needs of young people, from toddlers to teens.

We want all those small, scruffy, vandalised playgrounds languishing in our parks brought up to scratch.

That's why we say today: Let the kids play!
