Loved ones will once again be remembered at a carol service in support of the YEP’s Light Up A Life Appeal.

The appeal gives readers the chance to sponsor lights to adorn a huge Christmas tree at The Light Shopping Centre in the heart of Leeds.

Supporters can make donations and dedicate lights to loved ones, with proceeds going to the YEP’s Half and Half Appeal, helping St Gemma’s Hospice and Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice. Last year’s appeal raised almost £12,000 for the charities, which are based in Moortown and Headingley.

This year’s Light Up A Life carol service will be held at The Light Shopping Centre on December 12, from 6pm.

Donna Woodman, regional fundraising manager for Sue Ryder Wheatfields, said: “The team at Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice would like to say a big thank you to the Yorkshire Evening Post and to everyone who has supported Light Up A Life over the years.

“This is a very special event looked forward to by many people who have found comfort in celebrating the lives of those who are special to them.”

Gail Chapman, fundraising manager for donor development at St Gemma’s, added: “Light Up A Life provides a great opportunity to sponsor a light for someone who will be missed at Christmas while supporting both St Gemma’s and Sue Ryder Wheatfields.

“We are really grateful to the YEP and all the readers for their continued support.”

The names of those with lights dedicated to them will be listed on a roll of honour, which will stand in the courtyard of The Light from the service on December 12 until the end of the Christmas period.

Donations will be acknowledged in the Light Up A Life column, which will appear in the YEP every Saturday until December 15. Short messages can also be printed.

To sponsor a light, send a donation to: The Editor’s Secretary, Yorkshire Evening Post, Wellington Street, Leeds, LS1 1RF. Cheques should be made to YEP’s Half and Half Appeal.

The closing date for names to be added to the roll of honour is Friday, December 7.
