YEP paperboy Kurtis wins battle with the elements

A determined paperboy who has battled the snow to ensure elderly YEP readers get their paper has been given an extra special thank you from his customers.

Kurtis Davison, 15, delivers in Cliff Top Park, Garforth, where his hardiness has won him his own little fan club.

Patricia Vickers, 72, is one of several pensioners at the retirement village to have heaped praise on the youngster.

She said: "He is a grand lad, he really is. He has been delivering our papers without fail even though we live on a very steep hill. He's really had to struggle the past fortnight but he always has a grin on his face.

"It's hard for anyone to come up here but I have seen him cycling backwards and forwards through the worst weather and all this snow.

"Our park is a private site so it never gets gritted but he just carries on. He always stops to have a chat when I pass him on the way to the shop.

"Sometimes the youngsters do get bad publicity but they don't usually get the accolades they deserve do they?

"I think he's absolutely brilliant, it needs to be said, I can't praise him enough."

Kurtis, who took over his brother Daniel's paper round last year when his sibling started his GCSE exams, was not too sure what the fuss was about.

The Garforth Community College pupil thanked his customers for their comments, but said: "I just do it because I enjoy it and because I like biking.

"But I did get loads of cards and tips at Christmas and people saying well done. It can be hard cycling to the top of the hill but I never felt like giving up."

Mum Julie said: "He is a star and it's lovely that he is getting this recognition."
