HERE’S some knockout news for sports fans - world championship boxing is on its way to the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
The £60m arena will host an IBF bantamweight title fight between Britain’s Stuey Hall and South Africa’s Vusi Malinga on Saturday, December 21.
British welterweight champion Frankie Gavin will feature on the undercard, defending his Commonwealth title against an as-yet-unconfirmed opponent.
The evening will mark the first time the venue has staged boxing action since it opened its doors this summer.
Director of sales and marketing Tony Watson said: “The First Direct Arena is designed to host the greatest entertainment events in the country.
“We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming our first boxing event here and what a great card, with a world championship title to be decided.
“Fans will be able to experience the fights in an arena designed for entertainment, with the best sight lines and viewing distances in Europe.”
Other sporting events scheduled for the arena include a WWE Live wrestling extravaganza on November 14.
The 13,500-capacity venue will also stage the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards show on December 15.

* Former Emmerdale star Lisa Riley is heading back to Leeds with the Strictly Come Dancing live tour.
Lisa, who spent six years on the Leeds-based soap, was today announced as host for the production’s visit to the the First Direct Arena in January.
The TV favourite is also handling presentation duties for the rest of the tour, a repeat of a role she has filled before.
She said: “I had a ball [last time] and was blown away by the amazing reception I got from the audiences across the country.
“I can’t wait to go back on the road - see you in January!”
Strictly Come Dancing will be at the arena from January 24 to 26.
