Work is under way on a major new park-and-ride site that transport bosses say will be just the ticket for drivers in Leeds.

Yesterday (January 29) saw the official start of the construction of the 800-space facility, next to Leeds United’s Elland Road ground.

And, to mark the occasion, the site was given the once-over by Coun Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council’s executive member for economy and development, and Coun James Lewis, chairman of West Yorkshire passenger transport authority Metro, both pictured. The park-and-ride should be ready in time for the Tour de France cycle race’s visit to Leeds in July.

Buses between the site and Leeds city centre will be operated by First Group, with journeys taking about six minutes and return fares costing around £3.
