Police have released an e-fit image of a man wanted over an attempted armed robbery in Leeds.

A 57-year-old woman, was waiting at a bus stop in Beeston Road, near to the junction with Old Lane, when she was approached by a man who threatened her with a knife and demanded her handbag.

She ran into the road causing a passing taxi to stop and the driver went to her aid. The man ran off through a nearby cemetery towards Wesley Street.

Police said the victim was uninjured but was left very badly shaken by the incident, which happened at about 7pm on Sunday, March 16.

The robber was white, aged in his late 20s, about 5ft 7ins tall and stocky. He was wearing a black tracksuit top and bottoms with blue stripes down the arms and legs.

Officers want to hear from anyone who recognises the man or saw a man matching the description in the area. They also want to trace the taxi driver who went to the woman’s aid. He was driving a black car.
