Who would live in a police box like this...

IT looks like it has come from the set of hit TV show Doctor Who, but this Tardis is the latest weapon in the battle against crime.

The police box – similar to the Time Lord's time and space transport – has been renovated and brought into the 21st century to help officers spend more time in the community they serve.

Police in Almondbury, Huddersfield, will use it as a base.

Inspector Adrian Waugh said the listed building could almost be said to have travelled through time.

"Although the Almondbury police box is a remnant of a previous era of policing, the latest technology available to officers has now enabled us to use it once again."

He said PCSO Karen Buckley could access e-mails from her Blackberry so didn't need to travel back to Moldgreen Police Station to carry out paperwork.

Inspector Waugh said: "We saw the chance to use the space, recognised the positives and decided to take the opportunity.

"The police box has electricity and water supply which also means PCSO Buckley can spend her break there without having to leave the neighbourhood."
