Wharfe Valley: Call for Otley to benefit from green field sale

Otley Clock Tower.

Otley Clock Tower.

Councillors are calling for cash from the sale of land linked to a green field housing development to be invested back into a market town.

Leeds City Council looks set for a windfall from the sale of land at Meagill Rise in Otley.

The plot of land would form the access into a planned development at Rumplecroft.

Coun Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said: “We oppose housing on this green field site.

“But if the council is to make money from the sale of it, then we believe that money should be spent on things which will benefit the people of Otley.”
