Two men have been jailed for robbing a cashier at a petrol station who was threatened with a pair of scissors.

The victim was working in the early hours at the BP station in Pudsey Road, Leeds, when the pair suddenly rushed at him, Leeds Crown Court heard yesterday.

One, Gareth Waite, vaulted the counter brandishing what the assistant wrongly thought was a knife. He was ordered to open the till before he was told to lie on the floor of an office.

Waite’s accomplice, Jason Small also jumped the counter and the pair then stole £100 in cash and £1,000 worth of cigarettes and tobacco before they fled, after the cashier, who had escaped through a back door, threw bottles at them.

Waite, 31 of Heights Drive, Armley, Leeds, was jailed for five years and Small, 38 of Conference Road, Armley, was jailed for three years four months.
