West Leeds: Pudsey’s new street sign blunder

FIRST the residents of Pudsey were amazed to see Leeds City Council unable to spell the town name correctly on a major road sign.

Now it seems the place made famous by Pudsey Bear, the national mascot of the Children in Need charity, has been hit by another signage blip.

This time pedestrians wondering around the centre on the look out for the bus station will find themselves directed towards the Stanningley Bypass, rather than Market Square.

Local worker Cheryl Elsom spotted the mistake and reported it to Leeds City Council, and she believes that the other landmarks detailed on the cast iron signpost, pictured, are also wrong.

She said: “The signpost on the corner of Church Lane is sending visitors to the wrong destinations.

“One such person approached me and informed me he could not find the bus station while pointing towards the signpost.

“The sign for the bus station was directed towards Stanningley Bypass.

“I noted that the town hall had become a bank and the market could be found somewhere between Lowtown and Robin Lane.

“It makes one wonder if Leeds City Council have used the same contractor’s as before
