Councillors in Pudsey have welcomed plans for a new 20mph in the town.
The proposed zone includes residential streets off Littlemore Road and Valley Road, and those around Greenside Primary School, Southroyd Primary School and Crawshaw Secondary School.
Local councillors Mick Coulson, Richard Lewis and Josie Jarosz (Labour, Pudsey) and residents had requested measures to reduce traffic speeds in the area which is popular with families.
The plans are currently under public consultation and if approved, the zone may be put in place early next year.
It is part of the council’s wider scheme to improve road safety in residential areas, particularly in areas with schools, young families and older people. There are 24 further proposed 20mph zones throughout Leeds currently being considered. Coun Mick Coulson said: “We have been calling for this for some time, so I’m delighted that these proposals have been put forward. This area will really benefit from the reduced speed limit making it safer for pedestrians, cyclists and especially school children and the elderly. We also hope this will encourage more people to walk and cycle in the area.”
