A book celebrating more than two centuries of history at a church in the Horsforth area of Leeds has gone on sale.
Local historian John Burland has penned The History of the Grove Methodist Church, Horsforth – 1759 to 2012.
The book covers the growth of Methodism in Horsforth.
It charts John Wesley’s early visits to the town, the building of the first chapel in New Street and the fire of 1933.
The book includes memories of people who have been associated with the church over the years and there is also a list of organists and choirmasters dating back to 1868.
Mr Burland was helped with his research by Christine Mathers, whose late father J Stanley Mathers penned a pamphlet for the church’s centenary in 1968.
The new 64-page book is available now and copies cost £5.
The book can be purchased from the church on Town Street at morning worship on Sundays.
It is also available from Horsforth Museum on Saturdays and Sundays and from the Leeds Civic Trust bookshop on Wharfe Street, Leeds.
