West Leeds: Docu-film puts Bramley Baths campaign into focus VIDEO
A new film by young movie-makers from a west Leeds community group will highlight the campaign to save Bramley Baths from closure.
The short documentary, featuring users of the Victorian facility, including Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves – who is spearheading the campaign – was produced by members of Armley’s Interplay theatre.
Digital co-ordinator Tom Jordan premiered the film at the latest meeting to discuss the future of the baths, which also heard more about the planned restoration of full-time opening hours.

Newly formed group the Friends of Bramley Baths is putting together a business plan to turn the facility – which is almost 100 years old – into a BenCom, a community benefit society with locals able to buy shares and run it themselves.
The plan will be presented to Leeds City Council for consideration next month. If the group is successful it is likely that it will take over ownership of the Baths in early 2012.
Introducing the “fantastic” film, Miss Reeves said it summed up what the baths mean to local people.
“I know and you know that Bramley Baths has touched the lives of all of us who have used it,” she said.
She added the Friends had been “working hard” to put together their business plan.
Mr Jordan, who worked with local youngsters to compile the series of heartfelt interviews – filmed mostly from within the swimming pool – said: “When I first heard the idea I had no idea what the baths were like as I had never been in there. But over the period of the filming over two months, it grew on me. It’s an incredible place and the strength of feeling and people’s love for the place became more and more apparent.”

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 06:26 PMThank you for keeping this issue before us. The time is now to act and reminders to do so are very important. I enjoyed the video footage and seeing my friends interviewed as Bramley Baths really is a community gathering place and it would be a real pity to lose that sense of community.
