Wedding day burglars ruin Leeds couple’s honeymoon plans UPDATED

A pair of newlyweds have spoken of their devastation after they were forced to cancel their honeymoon following a break-in at their Leeds home on their wedding night.
Ian and Lynsey Morris said the burglary wrecked their plans for a five-day honeymoon to Iceland.
The couple left their home in Tingley on the afternoon of Friday, February 3, to get married at Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel in Pontefract.
Having tied the knot they then returned the following morning to discover their house had been burgled and valuables taken.
The 32-year-old bride’s engagement ring was stolen along with a Pandora bracelet, a Gucci watch and two laptops.
The groom’s passport was also stolen, preventing them going on their dream trip to Reykjavik.
Mr Morris, 39, said: “We are absolutely devastated. Our wedding memories have been marred by the break-in.
“We had a wonderful wedding day but unfortunately it has been marred by the break-in. I spent the following day on the phone. It has been terrible.
“My wife is absolutely devastated. The first day of her married life was spent in tears.”
He said the engagement ring was particularly significant for the couple. It is engraved with a message ‘I LOVE YOU LYNSEY’.
“It is traditional not to wear it on your wedding day. We expected to see it safe at home but it has gone. We will never get that back again and Lynsey is devastated by that.”
Mr Morris said the thieves even searched cupboards and drawers in their kitchen after forcing a rear door.
The couple said they were forced to use their honeymoon money to increase security at home.
“Our nine-year-old daughter is terrified they will come back,” he added.
Mrs Morris added: “The ring is not insured, but it is not the money it is more the sentimental value.
“It is unbelievable, the one time I don’t wear the ring it is stolen.”
West Yorkshire Police appealed for witnesses.

Lock up thieves - it stops them robbing
