We'll be playing our hearts out
By SOPHIE HAZAN AND CHRIS MURPHY PERFORMERS and promoters from different ends of the musical spectrum are staging events aimed at clubbers and classical fans alike to help raise vital funds for the tsunami disaster appeal.
Celebrities galore are set to descend on Majestyk's on City Square in Leeds tonight for an evening of live performances and appearances by pop-stars, soap stars and reality show stars alike – all of whom are donating their time for free.
VIPs
Dannii Minogue, Nadia from Big Brother, Lisa Scott Lee – formerly of Steps – will all be clogging up the VIP section of the club, along with the Leeds Rhinos and stars from Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.
Promoter Amy Wilkinson-Lough said: "We're hoping people in Leeds will come out to support the night and make their contribution.
"We're hoping to raise around 1m with 15 similar events around the country."
And next month, more than 400 musicians will take part in a musical extravaganza at Leeds Town Hall to do their bit for the appeal.
The orchestra and chorus of Opera North, the Leeds Philharmonic Chorus, and The Festival Chorus will come together for the one-off performance on Sunday, February 20.
Head of Leeds International Concert Season, Matthew Sims, organised the event in association with the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Mr Sims said: "It is not just about raising money, it's about all sorts of people coming together. It's an unprecedented response from musicians in the city.
"We have never had these three major choruses from the city together before. It's going to be an amazing and emotional night."
The concert will be the City Council's flagship response to the disaster and many executive officers from the council and councillors will be attending the event.
Coun John Procter, executive member for leisure, said: "This unique collaboration by the musicians of Leeds is typical of how the city is responding to the tsunami appeal.
"Everyone involved in the event is giving their services free of charge, so all money raised by the concert will go to the city's chosen relief project."
