Wanted: Extras for Leeds movie shoot

IF you fancy your 15 minutes of fame now's your chance.

Filming began this week in Leeds on The Last Days of Edgar Harding – a black comedy about a fictional band and its bid for fame under a famous rock manager.

On Friday director Stephen Fox, from Morley, needs hundreds of extras for a scene in real life music venue The Cockpit, in Swinegate, Leeds.

Production assistant Caroline Guest said: "We are actually looking for extras for two shoots.

"The first is at The Cockpit and we need people there by 1pm on Friday with filming running until 4pm.

"They need to be dressed as if they're going to a gig.

"All they need to do is turn up, sign an image release form and they're in.

"The second scene is being shot at the Brooklands Hotel in Dodworth in Barnsley on Thursday, August 14.

"People need to be there by 7pm and they will be there until midnight. They should be dressed as though they're going to a celebrity party."

The Last Days...is a low budget co-production between Stephen and business partner Dayle Coe, 39, from Wakefield, who formed Ghost Digital Productions.

Stephen writes, directs and produces on the film and for inspiration he looked no further than his experiences as lead singer of real-life group Plasticine in the late 1990s.

The band was managed by Sharon Osbourne's brother, David Arden, although Stephen insists the film's story is entirely fictional.

Auditions were held earlier this year and Fame Academy star Carolyne Good, from Bramley, is the only female lead character.

Stephen said: "The Director of Photography wants at least 200 at the Cockpit. We have about 120 registered so we're looking for at least another 80.

"We're filming in Leeds for around three weeks then we start up again in September. We're on a shoestring so I'm afraid we can't pay anyone, but the whole crew is in the same boat.

"The film is being shot entirely in and around Yorkshire, mainly in Leeds, where the story is set, and I want to explore the current wave of bands from the city hitting the big time so hopeful we can create a bit of that atmosphere on Friday."
