Wakefield: Roadworks are mapped out in new online service

An online map of major roadworks being carried out in Wakefield has been launched.

Wakefield Council chiefs say the innovative new service gives residents and visitors the chance to plan journeys and allow extra time if necessary.

The searchable map includes details of major roadworks in the Wakefield district, including those being carried out on behalf of the council as well as repairs by utility companies and the Highways Agency.

Coun Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This useful online service gives easily accessible details of major roadworks in the district, which will help residents to plan their journeys and allow extra time as necessary.

“Roadworks are taking place across the district as part of the ongoing programme necessary to maintain and improve our roads. This online service will help keep the public updated and our roads moving.”

The roadworks map can be viewed on the Wakefield Council website at www.wakefield.gov.uk/roadworks.

Clicking on the roadworks icons will give more information about the works, including who is responsible for the work and when it is taking place.
