Wakefield: Pulp star Jarvis Cocker to unveil new flagship city library

Jarvis Cocker will officially open a new library in Wakefield city centre next month.

The musician, broadcaster and author will unveil the library – housed in newly built Wakefield One – from noon on Saturday November 10.

And children’s author and illustrator Lynne Chapman will host a family workshop for children aged four to eight at the new library from 10am to noon on Monday October 29.

Wakefield Council leader Coun Peter Box will officially open the Wakefield One civic offices – which also include the new Wakefield Museum – at 10.45am on Monday October 29. A programme of events and workshops in the library and museum will follow the official opening throughout October and November and beyond.

Coun Box said: “I’m delighted that the building will be fully open from next Monday, and that there are so many activities taking place. I’m also pleased that Jarvis Cocker will be joining us for the library opening event on 10 November. It should be a great day.”

Wakefield One is designed to offer a one point of contact for a range of council services under one roof.
