Police have released more details about a bus smash that left 15 people injured.

The collision between the bus and a Volkswagen Golf car happened shortly after 2pm on Friday afternoon (Nov 9) on the A638 Doncaster Road, near Crofton, Wakefield.

West Yorkshire Police have now said they believe the crash occurred after the Golf “crossed the carriageway” while heading towards Crofton.

They have also revealed that the driver of the Wakefield-bound bus lost control of her vehicle following the collision.

The Arriva Yorkshire service only came to rest after demolishing a bus stop close to Doncaster Road’s junction with Kendal Rise.

Two passengers in the Golf, men aged 20 and 29, suffered critical injuries in the crash.

The Golf’s driver, a 30-year-old man, was seriously hurt but was said to be in a stable condition over the weekend.

Also seriously injured was the 64-year-old driver of the bus and two of her passengers, men aged 80 and 82.

* A 35-year-old motorist suffered serious injuries when his Peugeot 306 car came off the road and collided with a garden wall.

The incident happened at about 1.10am on Saturday on Wakefield Road at Kinsley, near Hemsworth Water Park.
