Wakefield nappy fethishist male au pair abused boy

A paedophile au pair who sexually abused a two-year-old boy in his care has been jailed.

The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier locked pervert Richard Mowatt of Wakefield up for two-years-and-three months after describing his crime as a "gross breach of trust."

Leeds Crown Court heard the boy's parents employed Mowatt, 21, after he advertised his services as an au pair on the internet.

During his three-month stay with the family, Mowatt, of Greenlay Drive, Kirkhamgate, abused their toddler son while changing his nappy.

Mowatt was a paedophile with a fetish for babies and very young boys wearing nappies.

He trawled the internet every night searching for child abuse images to

download. Police understood to be acting on a tip off raided Mowatt's home in Wakefield last July and arrested him on suspicion of downloading indecent images.

They discovered more than 1,300 pictures and videos on Mowatt's computer including images of children as young as three being sexually abused and tortured by men.

Police were not aware of the sex assault committed when Mowatt worked as an au pair in 2007 and 2008.

He told police what had happened and officers contacted the family.

The family had fired him because he wasn't up to the job and were unaware he had abused their son.

Mowatt also legally downloaded 5,600 images and 30 films of children wearing nappies from family photo albums on photo sharing websites including Flickr.

The court heard Mowatt was a socially inept but intelligent man with A levels who hoped to train as a nurse and work at a children's hospital.

Mowatt had admitted sexually assaulting the toddler and 21 offences relating to indecent images of children.

The court heard Mowatt, who has no previous convictions, has a high degree of self awareness about his sexual deviancy and wants to receive treatment.

His name will be on the Sex Offenders' Register for life and he was banned for life from working with children.
