Olympic golden girl Nicola Adams took time out from training to unveil a new academy to the delight of students.

The Leeds-based boxing hero signed dozens of autographs for excited youngsters before officially opening Purston E-ACT Academy near Wakefield yesterday morning.

Staff and students gathered in the main hall of the academy – formerly Featherstone Technology College – to watch a video of Nicola’s Olympic exploits. The academy, formerly Featherstone Technology College, caters for able bodied and disabled students. Nicola said she never tires of watching video re-runs of her Olympic bouts and is enjoying being in the media spotlight.

She added: “It’s good, especially if I can inspire the kids.

“That’s what it is all about, the future generation.”
