Nursery staff have joined the sack race pledging to fill 30 charity bags for a great cause.

Workers at Cherry Tree Day Nursery in Wakefield have joined the fight against heart disease this September by taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s Bag-athon – also backed by the YEP.

All month members of the public are urged to donate good quality items from clothes and books to electrical items and furniture.

Amanda Lodge, manager at Cherry Tree, said her staff’s efforts could potentially raise £600 for BHF. Now she hopes other people will join the campaign.

Amanda said: “Heart disease not only affects adults but children too, as we have seen at the nursery.

“The British Heart Foundation raises money for research into curing heart illnesses and conditions, but it also raises awareness on issues such as eating healthily and taking regular exercise. Our children learn how to grow their own vegetables and about being active.

“We really think BHF is a great cause and we hope lots of people will take on the Bag-athon challenge by trying to fill as many bags as they can.”

Just one bag can raise £20 for the fight against heart disease, said Michael Parkin, area manager for the BHF Wakefield shops.

He said: “It’s fantastic to see people such as the staff and clients of Cherry Tree Day Nursery taking on the challenge.

“BHF shops sell 90,000 items each day, so donations are vital.

“We’re always keen to receive lovely clothing, accessories, handbags, shoes, books, CD’s and DVD’s so please get filling those bags now.”

BHF can also accept electrical and bulky items. For help with larger items call 0844 334 1400 to book a free collection.

Visit your local BHF shop to collect or drop off a charity bag.
