They’re usually designed to ward off unwelcome visitors.
But this weekend it was a selection of scarecrows that had people flocking to Ossett town centre.
A variety of weird and wonderful creations – including a Mr Potato Head character, models of cartoon family The Simpsons and a sinister-looking undertaker – went on show in the precinct.
It was the third Ossett Scarecrow Festival – and according to organiser Peter Savage, “the biggest and best yet”.
He said: “It was absolutely brilliant, there was a steady stream of people throughout the day.
“We were sweating a bit on the weather, but it turned out really nice and that helped.”
As well as the scarecrows, there were wrestling bouts, a fairground, market stalls and music.
There were also activities in the town hall.
