Young petrolheads crowded round vehicles with a combined value of over 500,000 and none was more chuffed than 14-year-old Harry Garbutt, who had organised their visit to raise money for an expedition.

He got the fundraising idea at Harewood House where he visited a Cars in the Park event. He spoke to staff from the supercar club, ecurie25, and asked them if they would come along and give rides to students – and they said 'yes'.

"I love supercars and know lots of my friends do, too," he said. "So I thought I would try to get some here."

Harry's dad David said: "The club has done it for free and has been

really helpful. Hundreds of children wanted to ride in a Ferrari California and the lucky ones were rewarded for good schoolwork."

Harry already knew what supercars were like. He has been to track days at Elvington airfield near York and driven a Ferrari and a Lamborghini 360. "I did 95mph in the Ferrari and 115mph in the Lambo," he said. "It was a terrific buzz and that's why I can't wait to go in the Ferrari California today. "

His dad chipped in: "I always tell him that the better he does at school, the more chance he has of owning one of these cars."

Paul Brown, director of ecurie25, said: "Harry has definitely got a

great future in business.

"There aren't many people with the initiative and determination to pull off an event like this and then sell tickets for it."

Boston Spa School has been taking pupils on World Challenge trips for six years and encourages pupils to raise funds for them.

Teacher Kevin Adkins said: "They are not your average school trips.

They take pupils into exhilarating situations in countries and communities they might not have the chance to visit."
