Video: Leeds pupils hula for Haiti earthquake appeal
Watching the world rally round to help victims of the Haitian earthquake, a group of caring Leeds youngsters were determined to do their bit – even if it meant jumping through hoops.
The youngsters, aged between nine and 11, pupils at Cross Gates Primary School, gave up part of their lunch break to hula for Haiti.
Their sponsored hula hoop session raised money for the stricken islanders, who are struggling to rebuild their lives following the earthquake estimated to have left 150,000 people dead.

The children taking part in the fundraiser are all junior wardens recruited by East North East Homes Leeds (ENEHL), one of three organisations that manage council homes in the city on behalf of the council.

Angelena Fixter, who chairs the ENEHL board, said: "This is a really fun, enterprising way of raising funds for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

"It's great to see young people taking the initiative and helping those less fortunate than themselves – that's exactly the reason we set up the junior wardens scheme and it's wonderful to see."

Junior wardens help improve communities and set a good example to other young people. They have three basic rules – respect for themselves, respect for others and respect for their environment.
Working with ENEHL, the new recruits get involved in practical projects such as litter picks. They also act as extra eyes and ears for the community.
