Video: Leeds friends aim for world’s longest group hug

  • by Debbie Leigh

A hug can begin to feel slightly awkward after a few seconds – so embracing for 25 hours could be a tough challenge.

But that’s exactly what seven colleagues have been doing, in the hope of setting a record for the world’s longest group hug.

The buddies, who all work for Forever Friends, cuddled up in Leeds City Station yesterday morning (Sept 19) and were aiming to keep their arms around each other until around 11am today.

The stunt aimed to raise around £1,000 for pregnancy information and research charity Tommy’s, in addition to the £40,000 the brand has pledged to Tommy’s over the next two years.

Hugger Rachel Goodman, 38, said it was a cause close to her heart.

“My eldest son was six and a half weeks early so I know what it feels like – it’s a really scary time.”

The team were planning to pass the time with quizzes, games and even jigging around to disco tunes.

Their effort was being backed by celebrities including Leeds actress Gaynor Faye.
