An urban cycling challenge has seen cyclists tackle manmade obstacles and cobbled streets in Leeds’s first ever CityCross.
With less than three weeks to go until the Tour de France Grand Depart from Yorkshire, the alternative bike race saw riders cycle around Holbeck Urban Village on Saturday.
The textured surfaces of the area, which is home to the offices of Tour bidders Welcome to Yorkshire, hosted the inaugural Morvélo CityCross which is inspired by Belgium’s national sport cyclo-cross.
A festival featuring music, Belgian beer, art, clothing and cycling stalls surrounded the spectacle that involved a short 20-minute bike route.
Hundreds of spectators attended the event, which hosted 50 participants – including a rider dressed as Bananaman – in each of six race categories including under 12s, novices, women only and seniors.
