Upset for music fans after ticket firm collapses

DEVASTATED music fans fear they will not get to see their favourite groups, after a Leeds-based ticket agency announced it is going into liquidation.

Cavendish Travel, which has been trading for more than 30 years providing concert tickets and travel packages, has stopped trading and will go into liquidation on December 18.

Its head office, based in St Paul’s Street, Leeds, remained closed today.

Insurance worker Dee Baker, a mum of two girls from Knottingley who works in Pudsey,

said: “We are devastated after buying eight tickets from Cavendish to see One Direction next May at Manchester Arena and are now worried we won’t see them.

“We are not sure what will happen now. It’s worrying as I doubt we will be able to get hold of any more tickets.

“Our girls are devastated, as they were meant to be Christmas presents.

“We just want to know where we stand and if the tickets will still be valid. It seems completely unfair if not.”

Mrs Baker was hoping to attend the gig along with her sisters Lisa and Kerri, her girls Layni, 11, Raea, five, and their cousins Lula, five, and India, four.

A statement on the Cavendish Travel website says: “Please be advised that the company has now ceased to trade and will be placed into liquidation on 18th December. The company is no longer in a position to supply tickets that have been purchased, therefore you will need to make alternate arrangements. If you have paid for your tickets via credit card, you should contact your credit card company regarding a possible refund.”

A full statement on behalf of Cavendish Travel was released by Clark Business Recovery, the firm dealing with the liquidation.

Dave Clark, director of Clark Business Recovery Limited, said: “The directors of Cavendish Travel (Holdings) Limited (“The Company”) have reluctantly taken the decision to place the company into liquidation after trading successfully for over 30 years.

The Company is not in liquidation yet, it is anticipated that the Company will go into liquidation at a meeting of creditors on 18 December 2013.

Clark Business Recovery Limited is assisting the Company with the liquidation process and are collating information regarding bookings made by members of the public and would confirm the following:

1. The Company will not be in a position to honour bookings previously made where tickets have not yet been dispatched to customers.

2. We are informed that a substantial proportion of customers have paid by credit card. Customers who have paid by credit card should contact their credit card company to obtain a refund.

3. We are informed that there are a small number of customers who have paid by debit card. The position regarding debit cards varies depending on the contractual terms of the individual card companies. Customers who have paid by debit card should contact their card supplier to establish whether they can obtain a refund.

4. Unfortunately where a refund is not available, those customers will be unsecured creditors with claims against the company “Cavendish Travel (Holdings) Limited”. This situation will also apply to a small minority of customers who have paid by cheque or by cash.

He added: “I fully sympathise with any member of the public who has lost money in these unfortunate circumstances. It is a timely reminder to members of the public to remain vigilant when paying for goods that they will receive in the future and to take appropriate steps to safeguard their money such as paying by credit card or a debit card with a recourse facilty.”
