Two more charges for 7/7 accused
A LEEDS man arrested by police investigating the July 7 bombings faces two more charges.
Khalid Khaliq, 34, of Beeston, is already accused of possessing an al-Qaeda training manual on a CD at his home in Leeds.
When he appeared before magistrates in London today two more charges were added to the indictment. One is that he possessed a book called Zaad-e-Mujahid (Essential Provision of the Mujahid). The second is that he possessed a book called The Absent Obligation – and Expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula.
All three allegations are under the Terrorism Act 2000.
The charges follow searches of a property in Tempest Road in Beeston, Leeds in 2005 and 2007.
Khaliq, who spoke to confirm his details, had his case adjourned for a preliminary hearing on August 24.
No formal pleas were entered, but at a previous hearing his solicitor told the court that his client denied the allegations against him.
Khaliq, a single, unemployed father-of-three, who wore a black short-sleeved top during the hearing, was released on bail, with conditions including that his passport is retained by police and that he does not apply for any international travel document.
Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp told the court the materials alleged to be in Khaliq's possession were found in a bedroom and on a bookshelf in the living room.
He said the training manual contained instructions for the "aspirant terrorist".
Khaliq was arrested on May 9.
Four suicide bombers from West Yorkshire –Mohammed Sidique Khan, Shehzad Tanweer, Jermaine Lindsay and Hasib Hussain – exploded devices on three packed rush hour London Tube trains and a bus on July 7, killing 52 people.
