Twit, twit, hurray

Chris Moyles is doing it, Philip Schofield is doing it...even Barack Obama has been doing it.

And now, the people of Leeds are going all a twitter, as the latest internet craze sweeps across Yorkshire.

Twitter fans are being given the rare chance to meet face-to-face at the first-ever "Leeds Twestival" tomorrow, which aims to unite users of the social networking phenomenon.

The event, at Old Broadcasting House on Woodhouse Lane, is one of around 175 taking place worldwide to raise money for Charity: Water, which aims to bring clean, safe drinking water to people in developing countries.

And organisers are hoping that Leeds-born DJ Chris Moyles, who regularly updates his Twitter page during his Radio 1 breakfast show, will post them a good luck message.

Co-organiser James Ward said: "It's going to be a really fun evening with lots of people meeting up with others that they only know through Twitter.

"Anyone who doesn't use Twitter may think it's really nerdy but that couldn't be further from the truth.

"It's really simple to use and it's good for keeping in touch with friends, relatives and colleagues.

"It's a great way to network and keep in touch with people who you may only see once a year."

Traffic on Twitter has surged by 974 per cent in the last year and now a host of celebrities, from Britney Spears to Russell Brand, are using the micro-blogging site to give fans an insight into their day-to-day lives.

Guests at the Leeds Twestival will have the chance to enter a raffle, with prizes including a night in a top city centre apartment in Birmingham, a year's supply of coffee and gym passes.

Around 100 people are expected to attend the event, from 6pm until 9pm.

Tickets are still available and cost 5. For more information, visit http://leeds.twestival.com.
