Yorkshire Evening Post readers are being urged to bag themselves a free first aid kit.

The YEP has teamed up with St John Ambulance to create an army of lifesavers in Leeds.

Our First Aid For All campaign aims to teach basic first aid skills to 500 people across Leeds.

We are giving away dozens of first aid kits as part of our campaign to help people cope in an emergency.

The special first aid kits, supplied by St John Ambulance, contain dozens of items to help readers in an emergency.

The packs come complete with bandages, emergency burn kits, sterile cleansing wipes and plasters.

And readers can bag themselves a kit if they answer a first aid question correctly on social networking website Twitter.

A special question will be posted on Twitter tomorrow morning and the first 20 correct answers will bag one of our special kits.

Our First Aid For All campaign has seen over 250 people trained to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved in Leeds.

St John Ambulance district manager Andrew Feely said: “The reaction to the YEP’s campaign has been really positive.

“We are really pleased with what has happened so far and we are looking forward to taking it that one step further.”

The YEP revealed that more than half of the city’s parents would not know how to help their own children in an emergency.

* Last week we asked readers: You’re at work when a colleague starts to have a heavy nose bleed. What do you advise them to do?

The answer is: Pinch the soft part of the nose and tilt the head forward. Tilting back can cause blood to run down the throat and cause vomiting.

The pinch puts pressure on the bleed and hastens it stopping.
