INSPECTORS have found that three primary schools in Leeds are delivering a good standard of education in a glowing series of new reports.
Brodetsky Primary, Brudenell Primary and Roundhay St John’s CE Primary have all been judged to be good across the board by Ofsted.
Reports into the three schools have been published this week praising the work of staff and pupils.
Ofsted can rates schools in one of four categories: outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate.
Schools are given an overall judgement and are also rated in four key inspection areas: achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.
In each of the three new reports the schools were found to be good in each area. The report into Brudenell, in Hyde Park, praises pupils’ test results and the progress they make.
It says the most able reach and some exceed higher levels in reading, writing and maths.
It also praises the school’s governing body for holding school leaders to account “extremely rigorously”.
To become an outstanding school Ofsted suggests the expertise of the best teachers needs to be used more to improve the practice of others.
The Ofsted report into Brodetsky, in Alwoodley, praises pupil progress and says children are above the national average at the three Rs. It also praises the quality of teaching and lesson planning.
Head teacher Jeremy Dunford welcome the report and said he believed that the school was getting close to becoming outstanding. He said: “Some pupils make outstanding progress but the challenge is now to get more achieving this.”
The school is linked to the new Leeds Jewish Free School, a secondary which opened on the same site this year.
Ofsted’s report into Roundhay St John’s CE Primary says pupil attainment is above national average and results have risen for two years in a row.
It says pupils who have English language as a second language and those with special educational needs benefit from the good teaching which the school provides. It also praises senior and middle leaders and the school’s governing body.
