Trio arrested after Leeds taxi driver stabbed

The incident scene.

The incident scene.

A taxi driver was mugged at knifepoint and stabbed after dropping off a fare in Leeds.

Police are appealing for information following the serious assault in Beeston in the early hours of Sunday, which left the victim seriously hurt and in hospital.

The incident happened at around 3.55am in the Heathcroft Drive area. Parts of the estate, near Elland Road stadium, were yesterday sealed off with police tape.

The 54-year-old male taxi driver had just dropped off a woman passenger at an address on Heathcroft Drive when he was set upon, police said. After pulling over his car, he was approached by two men who demanded money, before one of them allegedly assaulted him with a knife.

The men and the woman then fled the scene and the victim was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with stab wounds.

Last night, he remained in hospital in a serious but stable condition. His injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

A 20-year-old woman and two men, both aged 19, were arrested in connection with the incident and all were being held in police custody yesterday.

Any witnesses or anyone with more information are being asked to call City and Holbeck CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
