Tribute to officers who searched for Shannon
Deputy Chief Constable David Crompton today paid tribute to officers and staff involved in the investigation into the dissapearance of Shannon Matthews.
"On behalf of the Force, I would like to thank officers and staff for their hard work and dedication during the investigation into the disappearance of Shannon – one of the Force's biggest enquiries in recent years.
"Whatever part they played, I know how deeply concerned we all were and the long days and weeks that went into finding Shannon safe and well.
"I also want to play tribute to the investigation team who, patiently and meticulously, put together the evidence that led to Karen Matthews and Michael Donovan facing trial.
"Today Karen Matthews and Michael Donovan were found guilty at Leeds Crown Court of kidnap, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice.
"Working under the pressure of huge public and media scrutiny, the force showed that West Yorkshire Police has the expertise, dedication and determination to tackle the most unexpected and challenging events."
