Accommodation for parents at a Leeds hospital has been made more comfortable thanks to a donation in memory of a six-year-old who lost her battle with leukaemia.

Kayleigh Logg died last year from a chest infection after fighting Philadelphia positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

Her family handed over 23 televisions to Eckersley House at Leeds General Infirmary, where they spent months when the youngster was in hospital.

Each carries an engraved plaque with Kayleigh’s name.

Her mum Nikki said: “Our little girl has left her mark there.”

Kayleigh was diagnosed aged five while on holiday in Cornwall.

The active and lively little girl was flown to LGI and given chemotherapy, which put the cancer into remission. In March last year she was given a bone marrow transplant, with radiotherapy before the transplant and then 124 days in isolation at LGI afterwards.

The youngster returned home to Castleford but her immune system was very low and after contracting a chest infection, she died in November.

Following her death, her mum Nikki and dad Paul collected £2,300 in her memory and decided to support Eckersley House, which is run by charity the Sick Children’s Trust.

The facility, opposite Leeds General Infirmary, provides accommodation for the families of children being cared for at the hospital.

Kayleigh’s parents stayed there after her bone marrow transplant and said it was very valuable.

“It’s not far from Leeds for us but when you have got a child that’s poorly, it’s a godsend.”

She said their room had an old analogue TV, so after raising the money they decided to buy new televisions for all the rooms at Eckersley House.

Nikki added: “It was a good feeling to go back in with the TVs and thank the staff.

“Eckersley House and Candlelighters have both been fantastic.”

She thanked firm MCE (Yorkshire) in Ossett which produced the plaques free of charge.
