Cycling has been taken to the heart of businesses and communities across Yorkshire’s Grand Depart towns, villages and cities.

Ilkley, near Leeds, has rolled with the Tour de France theme more than most, having hosted a Yorkshire Tour-inspired Ilkley Carnival last weekend, and staff tasked with getting the carnival message out have got on their bikes too.

The team at Approach PR, based on The Grove in Ilkley, has collectively cycled 59miles in a bid to get in the spirit of Le Tour as the annual carnival attracted 12,000 people.

Managing director Suzanne Johns said: “Cycling part of the route helped us appreciate the enormity of the challenge and it will be fantastic to see Ilkley continuing to turn yellow before the Tour de France rolls into town.”

Around 1,500 people took part in the carnival parade, while shop windows went Tour yellow.

The money raised will aid the LS29 Support Group for families with children who have special needs, and other local causes.
